Through the Valleys

30 Oct, 2009 // Andrew

Hey, here’s a live clip of through the valleys from the EP launch. It was such an incredible night, thanks to everyone who came out, and who bought a copy. It’s been great to hear all the positive feedback. If you haven’t heard it yet, check out www.ifnotloveep.com for samples and bonus stuff. We’ve ordered more cds too, so you should be able to grab one (or five!) soon!

I think this song is becoming one of my favourites on the ep now. I don’t know if that’s a bit self-serving since I played on it, but anyway… I like the way it sounds, and was really happy with the live version too. But more than that, I like what it’s about. In our lives, and in my life, we’re always going through valleys, or situations that can be pretty ordinary. It’s just part of living.
I’ve been reading Philippians lately, and in chapter 4 verse 7 it talks about peace. But not the same way as we think about it sometimes. When I think about peace, a lot of the time it’s about peaceful times or places. Getting away, finding a spot to sit and be still, listen to God, be at peace. That’s great I think, and I know I need to do it, or go crazy. But that’s not what Paul’s talking about when he writes to the Philippian church. In verse seven, he calls it “the peace of God that transcends understanding”. He’s talking about a peace that doesn’t make sense. That when you’re in the valley, and stuffs going crazy around you, your hearts and minds are guarded by this peace that in the natural, just doesn’t make any sense. That’s the real peace of God. Not dependant on circumstance, but on God, who I know I can always depend on. I’m not saying I get this all the time, but it’s something that when I do feel it, is incredible, and something I want to feel more, as I learn to trust God more and more, regardless of what valley I’m in.
